Reforestation in the Kaliningrad region

Why plant trees?
What are the benefits for our planet?
Why are trees so important to the environment?

Trees help purify the air we breathe, filter the water we drink and provide more than 80% of the world's biodiversity. Forests provide jobs over 1.6 billion people absorb harmful carbon from atmosphere and are key components in one quarter all medicines. Ever taken aspirin? It is made from tree bark.

Here are six facts that explain why trees are so important:

Air
Air
Trees act as vacuum cleaners for our planet. Through their leaves and bark, they suck in harmful pollutants and release pure oxygen. In urban environments, trees absorb polluting gases such as nitrogen oxides, ozone, and carbon monoxide and sweep up particles such as dust and smoke. The increase in carbon dioxide levels is caused by deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. Healthy, strong trees act as carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and thereby reducing the effects of climate change.
Water
Water
Trees play a key role in capturing rainwater and reducing the risk of natural disasters such as floods and landslides. Their complex root systems act as filters, removing pollutants and slowing the absorption of water into the ground. This process prevents harmful water erosion and reduces the risk of oversaturation and flooding. According to the Food and Agriculture Association of the United Nations, a mature evergreen tree can intercept over 15,000 liters of water each year.
Biodiversity
Biodiversity

A single tree can be home to hundreds of species of insects, fungi, mosses, mammals, and plants. Depending on the type of food and shelter they need, different forest animals need different types of habitat. Without trees, forest creatures would be left without a home.

Public influence
Public influence
From arborists to loggers, the job opportunities provided by the forestry industry are endless. We don't just rely on trees to work; sustainable timber production provides timber for building houses and dwellings, as well as for burning timber for cooking and heating. Food trees provide fruits, nuts, berries, and leaves for both human and animal consumption, and guarantee health and nutrition.
Health
Health
Did you know that sick people with tree view rooms recover faster than those who do not have the same view from the window? It is impossible to ignore this sense of delight that you feel as you walk through the calm, quiet forest. Trees help reduce stress, anxiety and allow us to reconnect with nature. In addition, the shade provided by the tree cover helps to protect our skin from the ever increasing harshness of the sun.
Climate
Climate
Trees help cool the planet by sucking in and storing harmful greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide into their trunks, branches and leaves, and releasing oxygen back into the atmosphere. In cities, trees can bring the overall temperature down to eight degrees Celsius. With more than 50% of the world's population living in cities - pollution and overheating are becoming a real threat. Fortunately, trees can absorb up to 150 kg of carbon dioxide per year, making cities healthier and safer to live in.

We plant trees since 2018

Who are we?

Just volunteers who are not indifferent to the ecology of the Planet Earth and the Kaliningrad region in particular. We started this project in September 2018, when we learned about the scale of tree felling in the Kaliningrad region, and also found that the Kaliningrad region is included in the anti-rating of regions in terms of the incidence of cancer and the fact that the Ministry of Health does not cope with the task of treating these diseases. in our region.

We have set ourselves the goal of planting 10,000 trees in our region, so that if not us, then our children and grandchildren can afford to breathe clean air and enjoy walks in green areas.

We quickly realized that in order to plant trees in an environmentally friendly way, we need to partner with professionals, so we keep in touch with foresters and tree maintainers who are willing to donate their time for a good cause.

About

For every 400 rubles or $5 that you donate, one tree will be planted in the Kaliningrad region. This is the average cost of one seedling in a wholesale purchase (seedlings of different trees cost differently). Volunteers donate their time, of course, free of charge.

Due to the large number of trees planted, they will be planted in different places of the Kaliningrad region, both on state and private lands in the places of the region where they are especially needed. Many of these places are state territories that are on the balance sheet of state bodies. Of course, before planting, volunteers agree with the land owner or local government representatives about an event for planting trees in a certain area.

DobroeDelo volunteers pay special attention to the cultivation of local tree species, where conditions and forest plans allow. We have a motto - plant the right trees, in the right place, at the right time.

The Kaliningrad region is characterized by a variety of tree species. The main species are maple, ash, oak, linden, pine, larch, fir, spruce. We mainly plant spruce and pine trees, as they are well adapted to our climate, easy to care for, and the seedlings are inexpensive. We plant lindens and oaks less often. Before planting trees in a certain location, an arborist visits the site, or a consultation with a local forest inspector is held, if such a specialist is attached to the site.
